WI: Wayne's World 3

This is one of my favorite comedy film series, and I always wondered as a kid why they didn't do a third. Now, I don't know if they could have. Wayne's World covered a culture that disappeared over the course of the 90s --- the metal head and hard rocker, steeped in the music of the 70s, 80s and early 90s. That faded as the 90s hit its mid point. I don't know if a third could have existed in 1994 or 1995. The culture may have changed too much by then. Even grunge had come and begun to die.

That may have been tough.

Maybe if Wayne's World would have come out in the Summer of 91 instead of Jan. 92, it may have been easier.

Then, you could have had part 2 around Dec. 92, and have part 3 around May or June of 94. After that, I don't know if you could.

Here's the thing, though: What would Part 3 deal with? Wayne marrying Cassandra?

The second movie was a horrible, horrible film. Make that one a bit better, and maybe you could have a third. Wayne and Garth having to grow up a bit, Wayne and Cassandra's relationship maturing, and Wayne realizing that he was part of a dying generation of music and dealing with the pop garbage of the late 90s. Early life crisis.

Except that this is the era of Mr. Big(Paul Gilbert's band), The Donnas, and Queens of the Stone Age, and in just a few years, they will be joined by the likes of Wolfmother, The Sword, Franz Ferdinand, Airbourne, and Fun.

I liked the second movie.

The problem with the third movie is that, if it's too close to the mid 90s, Wayne and Garth become outdated. They have to be the youth culture; even if it's the element of being that youth culture, but having to deal with getting older. Once you add in the next generation and make them the older generation, it just loses it. They have to be in their element. I think 1994 is the last good year for that film.
