IOTL, the Battle of Germantown was an attempt by George Washington to defeat Lord Howe's army in detail, by using numerical superiority and the element of surprise against a detachment Howe was commanding to clear the countryside of rebels. It failed due to bad weather and undertrained troops, together with Washington's overly complex attack plan. However, it was a fairly near-run thing, and the battle, combined with Saratoga (which took place about the same time), helped cement foreign intervention against the British. So, what if Washington's attack had instead succeeded, say because it was a clear night rather than foggy, and Howe's force was wiped out? Perhaps even Howe himself captured or killed?
