WI: Washington wins Germantown?

IOTL, the Battle of Germantown was an attempt by George Washington to defeat Lord Howe's army in detail, by using numerical superiority and the element of surprise against a detachment Howe was commanding to clear the countryside of rebels. It failed due to bad weather and undertrained troops, together with Washington's overly complex attack plan. However, it was a fairly near-run thing, and the battle, combined with Saratoga (which took place about the same time), helped cement foreign intervention against the British. So, what if Washington's attack had instead succeeded, say because it was a clear night rather than foggy, and Howe's force was wiped out? Perhaps even Howe himself captured or killed?

There is a thread about this,

It is quite good. The thread has the Chew house being bypassed and the fight against the Brits is more organised. USA wins in a route. US occupies Phil. Washington is a hero. Hessians surrender.

Can Washington effectively seige NYC. Probably not. Another result is more energy for the Patriots as fence sitters now join the cause, some Loyalists go into the woodworks.

Are these two vicories in 1777 enough for the British to quit the fight or will the Brits still hold New York City and shift the war down South. they probably make the shift to the South.

I see Washington moving up the Sullivan campain a year to 1778 to seize western NY state and perhaps more (southern Ontario between Niagara and Detroit).

Perhaps there will be another try for Canada but probably not.
