WI Washington killed at Brandywine Creek?

The demo for Empire: Total War has the Battle of Brandywine Creek as one of its two scenarioshttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Lagos. Whilst playing through Brandywine I managed to pin the American cannons at the banks of the creek. Then, at that point, Washington himself charged my frontline. He was torn to shreds by musket fire. That got me wondering.

What would the effects of the death of George Washington be? I would say that despite his death the Revolutionaries would still win the War of Independence, but how would that victory come?

What do you think?

I don't know... Washington wasn't the most talented field commander, but he was the glue that held the Continential Army together. Who else could hold that army together at Valley Forge?

Ironicly though, his death may give rise to Benedict Arnold's assention in the ranks. Not saying he'd get command of the army, by any means, but someone would, and he likely would move up as he's freshly the fightingman of America and the hero of Saratoga. If his desire for advancement is sated, he could end up being the hero of the Revolution.

Would Arnold go after more risky decisive battles where Washington sought to kill the British through a thousand cuts?

Horatio Gates would probably become the commander of the Continental Army and considering how he was terrible at the battles of Saratoga and Camden the Continental Army could feasibly fall apart and the British win the American Revolution.

But Gates was already in command of the Northern Army. Yes, he's terrible but worst case he can only be in command of one army at a time.

If Gates takes over Washington's army, Arnold very well could take over in New York. It would balance each other out really. And Gates really only has one more mistake before he's put to pasture.

Valley Forge could be the least harmful way for him to demonstrate how incompetent he is.
