WI: Wallace remains VP in 1944

What if, FDR kept Wallace as his running mate in the 1944 Election. How would the Democrats react and would FDR still win in 1944?

Many Democrats would be very unhappy since Wallace was perceived as very fringe and pro-Soviet. However, FDR still wins in 1944 since no one would vote out a popular wartime President. The Cold War might be delayed by a few years, since Wallace wouldn't try to place demands on the USSR that Stalin would not agree with (such as allowing free elections in Eastern Europe).

Wallace's personal association with people who turned out to be Soviet spies would give ATL McCarthy and John Birch Society types a lot more credibility, unfortunately.

Wallace became rapidly anti-Soviet after Korea, and endorsed Nixon in 1960.

Greece and Turkey will probably be more chaotic though. Perhaps Azerbaijan is expanded like Stalin wanted, too. After a year or two though, Wallace goes into anti-Soviet mode.

Possibly a split among the Democrats?
Granted, late 1940's is a trifle early for the dixiecrats & co joining the GOP, but they'd amount to a strong regional party.*
FPTP can often handle 3 parties if at least one has it's votes clustered in one area (BQ, SNP).

We'd see sooner desegregation...which could mean a Dixiecrat revolt.
Wallace was quite popular among the party base-just not the establishment. The media would ridicule him.
However, he'd put a greater focus on science and research. This could pay long-term dividends for the US.
Would Dewey or Taft win in 1948? Maybe. If Wallace was in office, we'd likely still head into Korea, especially under the UN. Either way, NATO likely wouldn't have the US in it...
