This idea comes from the PS2 game Warship Gunner 2, and while I think the specifics in the game are off, the general idea I think is intriguing. In the game, they explain Nordic Colonization of the Siberian Taiga around the Sea of Okhotsk/Sakhalin Island by a Danish tribe called the Wilks (when they migrated is unclear but the term 'tribe' makes it sound Pre-Columbian). They live under nominal Imperial Russian Suzerainty until gaining their independence in the Crimean War.

Now obviously, the idea of some Danish 'tribe' crossing two oceans to settle in Asia is beyond absurd, but the basic concept gave me a different idea; what about Dutch Settlement of Far East Russia in the 17th or early 18th Centuries? The Dutch have the resources and ties in the region to potentially launch such an expedition. My main questions though is is there actually anything worth creating settlements over from the Dutch perspective, and would the Russians want foreign settlers on their frontier? Part of it I guess appeals to me as sort of Texas-esqe scenerio; have foreign corporate bodies bankroll the development of the region only to have it revolt, but I'm certain all of you know more about the specifics than I do.
