In 395 AD Magister Militum of the West Stilicho trapped Alaric and the Visigoths in Greece and he was ready to attack and crush them...
But he was ordered by Emperor Arcadius (actually it was Rufinus who issued the orders because he had a secret deal with Visigoths) to vacate the Eastern Empire's territory... Stilicho complied and withdrew to West with his army... Rufinus's estates were spared by Visigoths when raiding in Thrace... And the Eastern Empire's army didnt move to confront Alaric under orders of Rufinus...
WI Stilicho ignored Arcadius (Rufinus actually) or the order never reached Stilicho in time? How is Alaric's defeat alters Roman History? Any thoughts?
