After the famous Battle of Mohács in 1526, which caused almost all of Hungary to be absorbed by the Ottoman Empire (except for a portion in the west, which was given to Habsburg Austria by treaty), the ottomans under Suleiman decided to follow up on their success and try to capture Vienna in 1529. The city, however, managed to repel the ottoman siege, and Suleiman gave up, confirming the legitimacy of the division treaty.
But what if the turks had managed to capture Vienna that year?
Would the ottomans decide to digest their holdings, would they just sack the city and retreat, or would they go bold and try to expand more into Germany and Bohemia?
How does this affect Europe as a whole, Hungary, and the HRE? Would this butterfly away the Battle of Lepanto? And how does this affect Charles V's position?
What does Francis I of France do in this situation?
