Impossible, for the crisis, I learned later, was abit exagerated - and CONFINED to USA and around, key part.

Not the video game market as a whole but just Video Consoles are killed off, this dosent mean they can't be replaced by something similar. ie a PC with the inherent features of a PC, but with strong branding system, or something to add unity to the brand overall.

I did`nt effect Japan and Europe, therefor it can`t kill off Video Game Consoles.

Only USA was really hit hard, finally. And USA, computers gaming was also on the rise...

I can't imagine killing off all consoles, he'll I think they would survive in the US though in a diminished role. We would probably see a stronger current of PC gaming and consoles becoming a less popular fad for "hard-core" fans of the games.

Even if we were to suppose that the goal is to cause consoles in the US to never become popular again, it's too hard to do. The primary demographic for video game consoles at the time (children, obviously) are not typically concerned with the value of their investment or the potential future of the company making it; they just want a fun new game machine. The concept has just too much marketable potential for the youth market to ignore.

They would only see a short term decline. Eventually the industry would recover in the US.

A TV based console has advantages over PC gaming for the casual user. It is much easier to set up and play compared to a PC. No settings to adjust. None of the memory management issues that plagued DOS. Just plug in the cartridge and go.

It's a huge advantage, especially in the '80s and early 90's before Windows took hold.

It has a big advantage for the manufacturer too. Greater control over software, less piracy, easier to drive people to buy new ones periodically.
