As soon as the Allies land on the Normandy beaches, Petain and Laval switch sides and order their forces to fight with the Allies. Is it in any was plausible, or should it be ASB? And if it does happen, what happens next?

Well, only problem is that Vichy France had no military by 1944, as it was all disbanded by Germany following Case Anton (The German take over of Vichy following Operation Torch). The best it could do is maybe incite some more resistance activities. Oh, and no way in hell Laval would switch sides. He was a collaborationist through and through. i could only see Petain maybe making a speech sporting the Free French after a change of heart. So all in all, pretty ASB.

I think a better question would be what would happen if Vichy France joined the Allies shortly before the Torch landings.

I think there was just a thread about what would happen if Darlan had been in France instead of Algeria and been in better control of the situation as it happened.
