WI: Very alternative 2008 fields

Democratic Field:

Former Governor Howard Dean of Vermont*
Senator Harry Reid of Nevada**
Former Governor Mark Warner of Virginia
Senator Russ Feingold of Wisconsin
Senator Joe Biden of Delaware
Senator Max Baucus of Montana
Former Governor Jerry Brown of California

* Never became Chairman of the DNC.
** Never became Democratic Leader in the Senate.

Republican Field:

Former Governor Mitt Romney of Massachusetts
Former Speaker Newt Gingrich of Georgia
Senator George Allen of Viriginia*
Senator Olympia Snowe of Maine
Senator Norm Coleman of Minnesota
Businessman Steve Forbes of New Jersey

* Won re-election to the Senate in 2006.

How would this play out?

You don't think the Republicans will try to get a leg up on the Democrats by trying Snowe, the first woman into the White House?

In the eyes of many Republicans outside of the Northeast, she is a Democrat, and even has run the risk of being ousted in the Republican Primary. There is no way she would be capable of winning the National Republican Nomination for the Presidency.

Romney gets the GOP nomination for sure.
I somewhat doubt it while a segment of the party bigwigs love the guy hes never really generated massive enthusiasm with the party at large. Add to that the perception of him as someone who flip-flops and the general smarmy vibe a lot of people get off him combined with his wall street past will probably kill his chances in 2008. Out of the candidates listed I'd say George Allen would be the front runner on the republican side assuming none of the issues that cost him his senate seat in '06 crop up show up later.
As for the democrats I'm actually leaning toward Dean assuming he didn't fade into obscurity between presidential elections.
