WI - Venezuela divided between the British and the Dutch

What if Venezuela was divided between the British and the Dutch? Essentially the Dutch would have everything east of the Orinoco (possibly ruling all of the Guianas), while the British would have everything west of the Orinoco (including later on the Oil and Gas)?

Not sure on the PODs to bring about such a scenario where the British rule the rest of Venezuela west of the Orinoco though it is interesting to note much of Venezuela was ruled for a short time by the Germans as Klein-Venedig / Little Venice.

Anyone?

Would a British Venezuela west of the Orinoco have been possible had the Spanish for example been more focused on North Africa or would another scenario have allowed the British to both take and hold the area in place of OTL Klein-Venedig?

I mean, there's also the fact that in this time period Venezuela was powerful enough that, unless the Anglo-Dutch forces were gonna sit there and pile a stupid amount of troops in Guyana/Suriname, the Venezuelans are going to be in Paramaribo before the theoretical anglo-dutch forces have a chance to act, then ofc the US stepping in and forcing England and the Netherlands to sign a slap-on-the-wrist treaty to get them the hell out of Latin america.

I mean, Venezuela only became independent in 1831 after the collapse of Gran Columbia. By 1831, the Monroe Doctrine has been put in place, and Venezuela was ruled by a series of caudillos that were rather insistent on remaining in power. Really, the only major kerfuffle Venezuela had with England in general was in 1895 when the ruling caudillo basically said "screw you brit bois Guyana is mine" and England said no and the US said "stop that" and that was it. Really, any intervention by outside powers into Venezuela is going to draw the attention of the USA, and lead to at least an Anglo-American cooling, which is in neither nation's best interests. If you really, really, really want Anglo-Dutch troops in Venezuela, you're gonna need a POD before the US Civil War.

Yeah but even in colonial era you answered the question something spain and later venezuela itself could get, even before usa even care. Still show how the point it solved, UK and Netherlands could loss everything(Trinidad and Tobago,ABC island, both guyanas) instead

Thats the thing. Theres no good reason tonwage a war of conquest on Venezuela. If you win, you get a violently rebellious "colony" that also pisses off a superpower and even if the US isnt in the picture Venezuela will be a violent, rebellious hellhole. And if they loose, the Anglo-Dutch could loose massice control of the Caribbean

Depending on the POD, it does not have to be an outright conquest of OTL Venezuela. Rather was thinking in terms of the territories in question being settled by the British and Dutch, possibly as a result of the Spanish being partly distracted elsewhere (such as in North Africa instead of the New World).

Before 1900, the US is not a superpower nor can it really beat the RN.
