WI: USA flag if Confederate independence?

OTL as the Union never accepted the CSA independence, the flag did not change for the 11 seceding state. However, if the CSA had somehow won (no matter how) and the USA accepted its existence as an independent entity, what would happen to the flag? Would it lose stars or would it remain the same? Would it continue to grow for each new state or would it be fixed as it is?

I think it will remain the same just as before, adding a new star to the design once a new state was admitted to the Union.

Black or upside down...

I could see the USA making the stars for the dead states black, or upside down as a sign that those states are in distress, under a tyrannical inhuman regime. They might even turn some of the stripes a different color...perhaps a black border around the stripe representing the states that have fallen to darkness...

If the USA really intends getting the states back, there might be ships named after the southern states, much as France had a battleship Lorraine built before World War I.

Lorraine is much bigger than just the Moselle region they lost to Germany.

Granted most of Lorraine was still French even after 1871, so it still makes sense. EDIT: Ninja'd!

Also in regards to the discussion at hand, I would hope for them to replace the field of stars with something like the Eye of Providence, a Phrygian cap (which was regarded as a "liberty cap" due to it being confused with the pileus, the historical freedom cap) or a bald eagle. I would suggested a torch, too, if it weren't so anachronistic. So yeah, I'm for the abolition of stars!

I'm not sure how often this is discussed, but i've always figured that the US post "Confederate emancipation" might go down a dark path, kind of similar to what happened to Spain after 1898. Considering that both the 13 stripes and the stars, regardless of pattern, would just be a remind to the war they bitterly lost. I could see the US flag replaced with something.. creepier, at least.

I'm surprised that if the CSA WILL continue to survive, the obvious solution of 'nine stripes and X stars' hasn't been suggested by now.

I'd guess the flag stays the same. The keep the thierteen stripes and either they remove the extra stars, or they keep them and just wait for eleven territories to become states before adding more again.
