WI: USA Annexed nicaragua?

Aparrently, the USA made Nicaragua a de facto protectorate between 1918 and 1933.

WI they went for full annexation?

Nicaragua Canal maybe.

And if they did anne it, what would be the implications?

Well, they already had the Panama Canal, so what good would a Nicaragua Canal do? You'd just spend billions of dollars and lose hundreds of lives digging something completely superfluous.

As for the implications, it all depends on how this takes place. If the United States simply unilaterally declares annexation a' la Hawaii, you'd have a large population of very angry Nicaraguans fighting back in prime guerrilla country, not to mention mass protest from European powers (Latin America was not Africa, after all). It would be many, many, many times more trouble than it would be worth, which is why it would never happen.

And no, the people of Nicaragua are not going to want to become part of the United States. The resentment felt towards the gringos throughout Latin America was feverish, and suggesting that they would want to join America then is about as silly as saying that the people of Bahrain would want to join the United States today.

Not going to happen.

This scenario is very unlikely.

What would the U.S gain by the annexation of Nicaragua, it would have to pump in alot of money to keep that very poor nation afloat.

As, said before, the Panama canal is already built. Perhaps, but this is a very long shot, maybe some powerful elements in the U.S feels the need for a second canal in central America. For "Insurance" against the first, what happens if the the Panama Canal gets bombed, natural disaster, etc. So that shipping is not entirely interupted.

But that is rather implausible.

Trying to annex Nicaragua would be very difficult, and would probably instigate further guerilla actions/instablity in Latin America. Hell, maybe the Panamanians get irritated also.

It'd be far more likely in the mid 19th century, when William Walker was filibustering.

Like others point out, the Nicaraguans in the 1910-30s were very against the US occupation. This is when Sandino becomes their national hero that he remains to this day.
