What if during the first decade of the twenty first century the United States is able to build a wall across the southern border with Mexico? What are the repercussions of it?

More people migrate over by boat, those more ingenious will tunnel under and charge migrants premiums to access them.

Illegal immigration occurs because of the free market and the iron law of supply and demand, there's a lot of hard manual jobs that Mexicans are willing to do for minimum pay, and lots of employers who like cheap labor. As long as those conditions hold true illegal immigrants will keep coming over the border.

About three weeks later the U.S government wonders if a moat would have been a better option.

This is, at least, the third current event subject you have posted in post 1900.

Couching it as happening a few years back does NOT, in any way alter the fact that it will become a current events discussion.

Enough.
