WI: United Kingdom of Ecuador, Perú and Bolivia

So, according to my Wikipedia research, Agustín Maria Muñoz y de Borbon, 1st Duke of Tarancón was proposed as the King of Ecuador, with the end goal being to unite Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia into one nation with a capital at Quito. While it did have support, eventually the movement collapsed and then the Prince of the Antilles died.

But, what if the support hadn't faltered and the goal was realized? How long could a Kingdom of Ecuador or a United Kingdom of Ecuador, Perú and Bolivia last?

The Peruvians and Bolivians would likely rebel at the idea of being governed from Quito. The impression I've gotten from reading about the Peru-Bolivian Confederation is that the Peruvian elite thought the world revolved around Lima and considered it the equivalent of Mexico City, Madrid, or Paris as the 'capital' of South America(in their heads). Truthfully, Lima makes more sense as a capital for such a large state, or Cuzco perhaps, due to its central location and it keeping the stupidly stubborn Peruvian elite content.

I guess I don't see Ecuador being able to keep Peru, let alone both Peru and Bolivia under their thumb, much like Bolivia wasn't able to keep Peru under its thumb during the Peru-Bolivian Confederation.

What about a tri-part capital?

One for the legislature, one for the monarch, and one for courts?

Or just one for legislature and one for the monarch ?

From the sounds of the project, it's going to be an Ecuadorian-dominated affair which makes transition to this system rocky, but, I suppose plausible if the other two states can be brought to heel. Getting it to exist at all is far harder than changing its structure, IMO, because that means the Ecuadorians first need to assert dominance over the other two states. Local royalists would be hard to find because the original proposal demands a capital at Quito.

The United Kingdom of Ecuador, Perú and Bolivia was less about building a unified powerful nation in South America and more of a money-making colonial project that was cooked up by some elites in Spain, it was very half-baked and pretty much doomed to failure and a lot of people lost a lot of money as a result.

Maybe I just like the idea of new world monarchies and want to see some attempted Hispanic ones. I mean this one never really got beyond planning. Would be interesting to see some sort of actual attempt

Several, more realistic PODs exist for monarchies in the New World. This one is the least likely to have worked, granted if the butterflies flap their wings and a lot of luck comes Agustin's way then he could have at least secured Ecuardor, but beyond that... it veers into ASB territory.

While I do sympathize with you in that regard, I feel the idea is next to impossible outside of a political strongman deciding that being a president is not enough and establishing a monarchy would work, as it has been done thrice with Haiti and once with Mexico. Realistically, as Shiva said, this one probably would work if the project was either largely kept to Ecuador, or if it was run by a like minded individual in Peru and Peru would be the center of it all.
