WI: UK and France join Nazis in fighting USSR during WWII

I'm currently a few books into Harry Turtledove's 'War that Came Early' series and I don't understand how a WWII that started over Czechoslovakia could have possibly caused a chain reaction that would lead the Nazis to seek an alliance with the UK and France in order to fight the Soviets better. I read the first book in the series a while back so I might have forgotten something, but I'm not sure. Could a WWII that started over Czechoslovakia have conceivably led to an alliance between these three powers against the Soviets? If so, why would it happen in that reality, but not ours?

Not one of Turtledove's best. Probably should either just go with it for the story or give up on it for plausibility reasons. You'll never come up with a plausible way for it to happen.

Ja. Turtledove's recent AH works are ... iffy at best. I've quit reading him, I'm afraid.

Some of his fantasy is still OK, and he produces some lovely short stories (lovely if you are a punster, anyway), but his AH novels have become pretty bad.

So I just did a little research and Rudolf Hess did make a flight to Scotland OTL to negotiate a peace with the UK so that the Nazis wouldn't have to face a two front war. In the Turtledove series Chamberlain is still in power as PM and Churchill shortly dies from a traffic 'accident'. Does that sound more plausible? I'm still not sure if Hess was asking them to join the fight against the Soviets or to simply make peace with the Nazis.

1) Hess didn't even have approval to negotiate anything.
2) no
3) hell no

Hitler: Hello, please can we have an alliance against the evil Commies?

Chamberlain: No, because you are a lying little weaselling shit. After the Rhineland, and the Anschluss, and the Sudetenland? I wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire, let alone trust you not to wait until we thought we were allied and then launch a surprise attack on France called Operation Moltke or something. Now you want to conquer Poland, White Russia, the Ukraine, and the Baltic States, and get us and the French to do the dying for you? Bugger off and don't let the door hit your arse on the way out. If you really want to fight Stalin, we'll only be buying popcorn. And more Spitfires and Matildas.

Alternate proposal :

Chamberlain : no sorry. I thought you understood that we, in the british government, wanted to ally with you against the USSR but could do it only on the condition that you don't use force against Poland. I tried to make it clear but you did not understand it and misinterpretated it for a sign of weakness. Now my public opinion is so infuriated against agressive expansionist nazi Germany that it wants war on Germany. If I ever moved towards an alliance with you, my government would be overthrown. That's how democracies work.

That's far closer to the real OTL Neville Chamberlain, the criminal bastard did not get the damnatio memoriae and criminal trial he deserved because he was too well connected and because Britain could not afford such a scandal when it needed national union to fight WW2.

Do you have a trustworthy source that is not the Crazy Mail?

x'D Hess was nuts when he made that flight! I thought everyone knew this

The POD could be with Edward staying King, and under his influence Britain has a more friendly relationship with Nazi Germany - though that may be tenuous, as it's just as likely OTL that his 'friendly' attitude to Nazi Germany, was the reason for the abdication - Wallace Simpson was just a public smokescreen!

Then there's the Churchill dies - shot down over France when on a visit to the Reynaud (?), British government in chaos, BEF captured, peace overtures accepted. Terms, not too onerous, but amongst the small print, something like British Forces in the spirit of goodwill, will be required to provide 'assistance' as and when required to the German Reich, and Germany will require the option to recruit men to join the Greater Reich's Forces.

Which makes Germany trustworthy how? No. Might it be theoretically possible that Britain accepts a peace? Wildly unlikely, but possible, I suppose. Any chance they'll be more friendly than a hostile neutral to Nazi Germany? Nope. No way.
