WI - Tzar Nicolas II captured by Germany

Also, why the Germans would even think to execute Nicholas? The Imperials did even left free Nappy III back then, and Ebert and the Republicans would likely saw him as a precious hostage and would free him likely soon after the armistice to the British.

I think if Nicholas II was captured, say in 1915, he may be deposed in an earlier revolution, most likely by Middle Class leaning revolutionaries or less reactionary revolutionary like the Mensheviks. It is possible we would not see a Bolshevik take over, after all their power began to grow as the war increasingly turned bad, and conditions worsened back home post 1916. And perhaps the new Provisional Government would take Russia out of the war. Remaining in the war was a bad move by Kerensky that also helped the Bolsheviks in real time. Also, Bolshevik leadership may not have been able to do anything with Lenin still in Switzerland, and if Russia gets out to the war, Germany has no reason to help him get back to Russia. So if no Bolshevik takeover, they would not have possession of the Tsar's family.

I can a see a Provisional government under this timeline, sending his family to join him in let's say, neutral Denmark. His mother was born a Danish Princess, and he was a first cousin to then King Christian X. (Though in real time, I never understood why the Provisional government did not do so in the first place.)

I could see in a post war period, the ex-Tsar and his family relocating to Britain, where his other first cousin, through his Danish relatives, King George V reigned. (George V's mother and the Tsar's mother were devoted sisters.)

After the war he moves to the Netherlands and him and Wilhelm become roommates.... This would make a good sitcom
