WI: Tutankhamun Lived Longer

What if Tutankhamun Lived Longer?

What if Tutankhamun instead of dying at the age of 18 lived longer and had at least one male heir.

What would the rest of his reign have been like? How would it have effected Egyptian history? Would a stronger 18th Dynasty have prevented Ramses II from ever gaining the throne of Egypt?

Also any good TL's out there on Akhenaten and Tut?

I am not sure that it would change much. Tutankhamun was pretty sick due inbreeding and even his descedants (twins) were stillborn. Even if Tutankhamun would live bit longer and him has living son who would outlive his father, Horemheb probably still gains power, leastly de facto, if him not become pharaoh. 18th dynasty is probably doomed on this point.

Yeah the fact that a military man was able to overthrow the throne shows how weak and unstable the Kingship had become. Even if the King had a son, it's likely that Horomheb would take over.

It all depends whoever replace the Ramseses dynasty could repel the Sea People's and Libyans. The Egyptian state was in really poor shape by the 19th Dynasty, food shortages, strikes, Preists of Amun controlling everything, border raids etc. There were a lot of issues that I'm not sure a different dynasty could fix in the long run anyway, the state is probably still doomed.

I agree it's a challenge to keep Tutankhamun alive. But if he does live a bit longer and the succession struggle after his death plays out differently, Egypt may avoid a costly diplomatic incident and round of warfare with the Hittite Empire. The Hittites may still seek to press into Syria, but they could just as easily expand elsewhere.

Back in Egypt, I don't think it's likely Itnetjer-Ay's fate is much different, but it's possible that Horemheb might father an heir by Ankhesenamun if her fate also plays out differently. This potentially continues the 18th dynasty through the maternal line, which has butterflies in store for the careers of a general named Ramesses and his son Seti...

Based on recent findings, I'd assume any heir of Tut would be plagued by the same hereditary illnesses that plagued Tut and Akhenaten.

I'll say.

Did they do a genetic analysis recently suggesting that his parents were brother and sister?
