Unless the Soviets intervene of course and give them aid.

I definitely would bet the US would be glad to support them if it meant that the Communist Turks would suffer. Probably only if Istanbul and the surrounding territories were held by Communists.

Turkey is a member of NATO and the USA has nuclear missiles there. Soviet intervention is out of question until:
1. Turkey is out of NATO
2. The USA removes all nuclear warheads.

Millions of Turks already live in the area. You could rather support a new dictator in the area than helping Greece occupy the area because it likely drive them behind the communists and you lose both the land and your allies eventually.

Okay so Let's say that the Cyprus Crisis escalates into full-scale war. Turkey and Greece are now fighting a war in 1974. Turkey has a leg up on Greece. Larger population, and closer to Cyprus. Turkey instantly mobilizes all local troops to Cyprus to force the Greeks off the Island. Soon both countries are moving troops. Greek Islands near Mainland Anatolia are taken through week-long seiges. Greece starts making more defences to the Greek islands. Turkey sends the majority of their troops to take Cyprus. The Turks quickly Overrun Cyprus and is under full military control.

Now Comes Foreign Intervention. During the Crisis in our timeline, the U.S put an embargo on Turkish arms sales. So now that its' escalated, America embargos all imports, and exports from Turkey. America openly supports Greece in this conflict. The Soviet Union seizing on this event openly supports and blockades Greece imports and Exports.

Now that Turkey seized Cyprus, Greece and America support a Kurdish revolution in Kurdish Turkish areas. Kurds from all over the Middle East, From Iran to Armenia come to fight for a free Kurdistan. And to make American-Turkish relations even worse, America recognizes the Armenian genocide.

So now we got Kurdistan vs Turkey vs Greece. How can we make it worse? Well after America recognizes the Armenian genocide, The Soviets start sending troops to fight Kurdish rebels, and restore the land to Turkey, while Turkey deals with the Greeks.

Now how can we make this worse? Well, we could get Mehmed Ertuğrul Efendi son of Mehmed VI last crowned Sultan of the Ottoman Empire, seeing a chance to gain prestige goes to Istanbul, and forms a rebellion in the city to reform the religious Ottoman empire.

Soooooo there

We got

Greece vs Turkey vs Neo-Ottoman empire in Istanbul vs Kurdish rebels vs the Soviet Union vs America.

Now go crazy.

There is no chance kurds in turkey might revolt at 74. Actually public support for cyprus intervention at dominantly kurdish areas were comparable to dominantly turkish areas. Before 1980 coup there was not a meaningful kurdish political movement.
If you are looking for a turkish civil war my first bet would be at 1960. 1960 coup did not have anonymous support at the turkish military. It is said that general of the 1st army stationed at istanbul would order his army to march on ankara to arrest the leaders of the coup but at last moment when he learned Cemal Gursel was among the leaders of the coup he changed his mind.

post 1938 and pre-1980s there's no meaningful kurdish "insurrection" or whatever occuring like someone else said.
1960 coup intra-fighting is one option. or the 1971 9th of march (the leftist/madanoğlu coup) not being stopped may lead to infighting as the generals leading the units in istanbul/kocaeli, as well as the chief of staff is a rightist.

post 1980 the state is too well-armed and well-set, with non-state actors losing their capability to wage large scale action. pkk didn't really get going in large amounts till the 90s.

armenian/greek action would soon see ceasefires till they're dealt with. nobody likes them.

US does NOT want any instability in Turkey, as this jeopardizes precious NATO bases, and puts a well-armed ally in turmoil. Silly soviet foreign politics made Turkey join NATO, silly US foreign politics can make Turkey leave. So Greeks don't get any support in any invasion, and are most likely told to back off.

Didn’t the nuclear weapons get removed after the Cuban Middle Crisis? And the presence of troops didn’t stop the Soviets in Vietnam for example.
