WI: Tsuyoshi Inukai survived May 15th

The short-lived democratic government in Japan fell after Tsuyoshi Inukai was assassinated on May 15, 1932.

Before his death, Inukai attempted to discuss the Manchurian problem with China which angered the military. Had he survived the attack, could he somewhat delay the war?

IMO, I think that even had he survived that attempt, the assassins and their sponsors would have kept trying for him until they got him. Otherwise, the military would have used their power to bring down the government to have him removed from office. No one civilian could have stopped the war at that point, or delayed it very much.

At least, that's what I think.
