WI: Tsarevich Alexei dies at Spala in 1912?

What it says on the tin. In 1912, Alexei had a severe episode of his hæmophilia. What if instead of being "saved" by Rasputin, he dies to the dismay of the entire Russian Empire? Would Nicholas declare GD Michael as heir regardless of his morganatic marriage or does he repeal the Paulinian Law that bars women from the throne and make GD Olga his heir? And is the Russian Revolution still unavoidable at this point?

Nicholas hardly repeal Paulinian succession law, altough it is somehow possible but implausible. But revolution probably happen anyway even if there not be Rasputin messing around. There is still Nicholas II who ruins everything anyway.

I was thinking of doing a TL where Alexei dies early. This looks promising. Rasputin would be exiled for sure. But, would the Tsar be too devastated to rule after his son dies?

Nicholas was deeply conservative, its unlikely he would have changed the succession laws to enable his daughter to inherit. For one thing he was the kind of man who didn't think a woman could rule. He would have also faced intense pressure from Russia's social and religious conservatives, with whom he was naturally allied. At a time when Russia was on the verge of revolution, its unlikely that Nicholas would piss off his most loyal subjects.

It would have also made firm enemies of the Vladimir branch, who would always pose a threat to his line. Had Alexei lived and the monarchy survived, I've always felt it was a near certainty that he would have forced to marry either Olga or Marina of Greece, giving the Vladimir branch an investment in Alexei being Emperor.
