Wi: Trudeau assassinated?

What happens if during the October Crisis, Pierre Trudeau, after making a speech in Montreal, is assassinated by a lone gunman linked to the FLQ while walking with his security and entourage? Does the Canadian government, now likely led by an Anglo politician (say Allan MacEachen), "take the gloves off", and put Quebec under unlimited military rule? How does the average Quebecer react? What happens in the rest of Canada, especially to non-Quebec Francophone minorities?

FYI, this may be used for a possible TL, in which Canada becomes very dystopic , almost to a "Fear, Loathing and Gumbo" extent. I imagine there will be significant ethnic conflict, and a general degradation of Canadian democracy into a more authoritarian framework, albeit with substantial popular backing.

Martial law continues for a while longer and security is seriously tightened. At that time there was no DPM, so dunno who would form a temporary government. Turner v. MacEachen with Turner likely winning IMO.

Any chance of the banning of the Parti Quebecois and/or the suspension of the political rights (specifically voting rights) of Quebecers unless they take a loyalty oath to "the nation of Canada"?
