I don't see why demilitarization and temporary occupation should be considered as a particularly vicious measure. It was actually a considerably civilized and restrained way to defang future offensive intentions, especially if one considers the obvious alternative, the one Germany would resort to: direct and permanent annexation.
 
3.) Colonies- German colonies weren't worth much. Losing them might've hurt prestige, but wouldn't make the economy suffer any.
