WI: Tom Daschle enters 2004

The announcement [Daschle would not run] surprised even some of his closest aides, one of whom told CNN plans were being made for Daschle to announce his candidacy Saturday in his hometown of Aberdeen, South Dakota The aide said he made up his mind after taking one last "gut check" Monday night.

Basic WI is if Daschle changes his mind during this "gut check". I've always felt the '04 election seemed to lack any real heavyweights at the outset and as much as I'm a fan of Sen. Kerry, I feel he was in the right place at the wrong time, and basically inherited the nomination when Gov. Dean was forced out.

A problem Kerry had was that he opposed Gay Marriage but had voted against the Defense of Marriage Act. How did Daschle vote on that? Kerry also wanted to make NAFTA an issue but he voted for it. Did Daschle support NAFTA?
