WI tobacco and cannabis couldn't be smoked

A simple botanical POD: What if the chemisty of both nicotine and cannabnoids were slightly modified such that smoking tobacco or cannabis was an ineffective means of ingesting them? Other (primarily oral) means of ingestion work fine, just not smoking?

What would be the effects on society as a whole?

I think tobacco would taste to horrible to be used.

Cannabis on the other hand taste great especially with chocolate, maybe a toned down low thc version of it becomes a popular way to relax.

 Someone's not familiar with smokless tobacco use. Chewed tobacco was far more prevelant than smoked, at least in the US, before 1900. Oral forms such as chewing tobacco, snuff, snus, dipping tobacco, and gutka are used by millions today

Cannabis tea and "green dragon" work as well. And curiously, at least to me, cannabis can also be chewed...

Cannabis is eaten all over india as bahang, I can very well see it not being adopted to be smoked if perhaps there is some religous ban on the purposeful enhalement of smoke.

I'm not thinking ban on smoking but an actual chemical reason. Think adjusted combustion or vaposization points, a la "lighting up" a cig or blunt = simply burning up some good chew.

I don't want to be a sourpus but...how are you going to have it so you can put cannabis in tea but not smoke it? The reason it works in tea/brownies/etc is because the heat from baking/preparing it releases the THC from the crystals that coat the plant. Smoking works in the same way.

Yeah, snus is significantly less disgusting than smoking fags.

I disagree watching spit that out and carry around plastic bottles with them to spit out their tobacco juice...gross. At least it isn't legal to smoke in public (at least in Mississippi anyway one must be 20 feet away from the entrance of a building)

I hate it when people light up in my car, I hate the smell of burning tobacco and that it never leaves. Yet the skunk-like smell of reefer doesn't bother me at all, it seems to smell sweet the next day.

I forgot about that stuff, really bad since I work where it is sold and commonly sell smokeless tobacco to people. Most of them buy "longhorn longcut wintergreen" I hear that at least five times a night, and yet I can forget about that so quickly.

I've made something like that with eggnog before it was good tasting.

That scene in "grandmas boy" where she makes the tea wouldn't really have worked that well because water won't absorb the THC well enough for a high one needs to use milk. I guess a cheese could be made with it.

I've always called the drink made from soaking cannabis in everclear and letting it absorb the THC for a few months Green Dragon I heated the two and then poured it back into the bottle.

Don't you have to heat it first to activate the THC?

C?

There's no juice. This is snus I'm on about, not 19th century style chewing tobacco.
It is a bit weird to have a little bag behind your tooth- talking to someone with some in takes getting used to. But it beats having a cigarette in your mouth.
Snus is extra good because you can do it totally without bothering other people.

That's kind of the point - a chemical change. Think "tea" proper - as far as I know, Camellia sinensis isn't smoked. (And don;t worry about being a sourpuss - constructive criticism is a good thing. :))

But you still won't be getting a high from the "tea" THC is only very slightly soluble in boiling water.

You can add honey to the water though and it will make it more soluble.

But, as I said, this THC is chemically different. It's not smokable, but other means, like "teas" are ingestable.

Anywho, to get off the hijack, how is history different because of this?
