WI: Timur invaded Egypt

Timur was planning another campaign westward, to invade Egypt and finish the Mamluks. He died in China, in 1405, before implementing his plan. My question is what if Timur had lived and in 1407-8 headed back westward? He had already talked with Ibn Khaldun and got tactical information on Egypt. How much success would he have had?

He dies in Egypt. Possibly due to Egyptian actions. I could see the mamluks beating him here if only because winning is a matter of making timid dying and letting the rest play itself out.
