Tigranes The Great of Armenia had turned Armenia into a strong empire. He had built a magnificent capital, Tigranocerta. When Mithridates fled to Tigranes (his son in law), the Romans demanded Mithridates be handed over.
When Tigranes refused, Lucullus crossed into Armenia without consulting the Senate, and marched towards Tigranocerta. The garrison army and another larger army arriving almost hemmed Lucullus in. Despite being heavily outnumbered, Lucullus crushed the Armenian army and was let in to the city by the Greeks in the garrison.
So I have 2 POD's here.
1.) Tigranes wins the battle of Tigranocerta and defeats Lucullus. Maybe he restores Mithridates to his throne and helps him invade Asia Minor again? Not sure if he would do that though.
2.) Tigranes agrees to hand over Mithridates.
What are the implications of this for Armenia and Rome?
