More than a bit ASBish, but WI Faraday somehow saved Babbage's life circa 1810, so that they become lifelong friends and correspondents, and instead that analytical engine of his Babbage devises electrodynamics... That way we would maybe have all the theory by 1850s, and 30 years to try and get some usable stuff...
