WI There was a "Danger Man" film series?

Patrick Mcgoohan was once approached to play James Bond, but turned down the role as being too immoral.
Suppose he instead starred in a movie series about the John Drake character? Since this character seemed to better fit his beliefs.
How plausible would it be for this to have happened?
Could it have been as successful as James Bond?

While John Drake was a moral, thoughtful secret agent man of integrity, the show failed to have a hook. As a feature film, it would pale in comparison to "Our Man Flint", for example. Escapism. Flash. Nobody buys popcorn to watch a display of righteous ethics. It would have made a better movie than the Dean Martin version of Matt Helm, which sadly, was a marvellous spy version of Mike Hammer portrayed on film as Clarabell the Clown.

'Our Man Flint'? Really? Kudos for not bringing up 007 as the analogy, though.

Of course there was an attempt at a gritty, noir inspired espionage film series during this era.

Len Deighton's 'Harry Palmer' (who was actually nameless in the original novels).
