IOTL, after the first Sack of Rome, Alaric headed into Southern Italy, planning to invade Sicily and North Africa for their grain, but fell ill and died. The Visigoths, under his brother Athaulf, then went back north and were settled in Aquitaine as foederati, but what if the Visigoths had invaded Sicily and/or Southern Italy, either through Alaric not dying or Athaulf deciding to follow through instead of turning back north? Would they have had any more success than the Vandals?

Any thoughts?
