What if the USA did not ban importation of “military style assault weapons” between 1989 and 2004?
We are primarily discussing how this ban affected civilian gun-owners.

Why, with all those rifles with bayonet lugs getting into the country, the carnage from blade wounds would have been immense:cool:

Realistically, Prices stay lower(M1 Carbines were selling for around $100 before the Ban, and quickly increased), and there will be many more SKS rifles from the various ex-Communist Countries and China on Gunshow Tables on and gunshop racks, along with more semiauto FALs from NATO countries and others like AUGS from Austria and Daewoo 'K' rifles from Korea

Aren't Chinese imports banned under separate (and still in effect) legislation?

From certain Chinese organizations, yes.
But the same Chinese Type 56 rifle with Albanian acceptance stamps, those were OK for importation, along with Vietnam, etc.
Without the other Ban, I doubt Clinton would have done the Import restriction

Good point dear SealTheDeal,

Right after the Iron Curtain fell, the USA was swamped with communist-surplus warbirds. So many, that in 1993, the FAA imposed a temporary ban on importation until they could catch up with the paperwork.
That year I packed pilot emergency parachutes for: TBM Avenger, Bosbok, Chipmunk, Draken, F-104, Hurricane, Galeb, Gnat, Iskra, Impala, Jungman, L-28, L-29, McDonnel-Douglas, Mustang, Nanjing CJ-6, National Test Pilot School, NASA, P-38, P-40 Warhawk, P-47 Thunderbolt, P-51 Mustang,, PZL, Scaled Composites, Spitfire, Stearman, Schweitzer R-2, T-6, T-28, T-33, T-34, T-38, Yakovlev, US Army, Zlin, etc.
It was cheaper for rich American pilots to buy communist-surplus jet trainers than classic Western warbirds.

TFW I missed out $100 M1s. I paid $450 just to get a .22LR MP-15!
