WI the US recreates the republic of the Rio Grande

The republic of the Rio grande was a short lived breakaway republic from mexico, but lets say America after the Mexican American war decides that it would be useful to have a buffer state between themselves and mexico expecially with all of their newly acquired territory that they want to settle.

So they restablish the republic and Give it its historic heartland Chihuaha, Durango, Sonora and Sinloa on the map so it reaches from the Atlantic to the Pacific.

How would this change America and mexico, and what would the republic look like today in the modern era?

It looks non-existent.

Of course this is just my opinion, but I don't see enough popular support existing to form such a state from either country. The Republic of the Rio Grande was an extremely short-lived republic, one that had conflicting border claims with Texas. Their capital was in fact in Laredo which now after the war is firmly a part of Texas. It's been 6 years and it's founders have moved on, some even with positions in the Mexican Government. Even if the US decided to make this artificial state, who would lead it? Several of these states you're proposing to add to it contributed zealous defenders of Mexico during the war. While Mexico had many problems and several states wanted to breakaway it's hard to imagine them being willing participants in this artificial country.

But say the US creates a government from scratch that is made up of supporters of the idea. How long will they stay in power before the cracks start to show? It's going to collapse without the US constantly propping it up and the instant they let it fall apart, Mexico is reclaiming its land. If the US has to invest so much effort and money to prop it up, why isn't it a part of the US? So by the modern day Mexico is either back to OTL borders, or the US has 6 more territories, and relations between the two countries are further strained.
