WI the US Guarantees Hainan?

After the fall of the KMT from the Mainland the US Guarantees Hainan and Formosa with the 7th fleet and sends advisers to both islands along with arms to better prepare their defenses.

How does RoC develop and how do the numerous RoC PRC crisis situations play out in the 50s, 60s, 70s etc, and eventually into the present day? How does this affect cross strait (s) relations?

Major butterflies here. Certainly having Hainan (and I assume a bunch of smaller islets such as the Spratleys) claimed by the ROC allows more potential for small scale naval clashes and Quemoy/Matsu type problems. Having Hainan as part of the ROC introduces all sorts of interesting possibilities vis a vis Vietnam - very likely the USA will have use of Hainan for basing of a/c & naval forces during the war.

Having the ROC consist of 2 big islands & several smaller ones probably means a much larger ROC navy. Most importantly, when South China Sea oil/gas deposits are discovered ROC has a big dog in the fight over where whose waters are....
