WI the United States invented the first assault rifle?

Last time I checked they were 10%, honestly I doubt 25% of people are lefties.
Well then I have no Idea how someone came up with that number, or why they insisted on using it. However for an armed Service having 10% of your troops as unable to operate the Standard Rifle without wearing Face protection is rather stupid, and it's even more so with 25%.
So my Point still stands, regardless of the bad data.

The Only Issue with a Bullpup is Hot Brass in your Face!
Which is significant for lefties, who are about a quarter of all forces. So the weapons have to be designed for Lefties and Righties. Unless you go with a Forward Eject sytem, and I've only hear of one really working once, and even then the system doesn't seem like it'd work if the gun's at a positive elevation.

If you're using the Steyr and are a left hander, you simply ask the Amoury Sgt for a left handed breech group. Solves that problem. Lots of belt fed MGs fed from either side, so the detail wasn't a problem.

The KT RFB is the most reliable forward ejector made so far, some of the first browning machine guns used the same mechanism, so you could fit such a gun in to a WW1 or 2 ATL, and yes forward ejection systems have more than enough strength to overcome gravity when pointed vertically.

One thing I was thinking was the development of the assault rifle would be for the Marine Corp in the interwar years to look at it for their rifle squads. They had a BAR per squad they might look at having two or more armed with them depending on what they were tasked with. If they were in some place like Haiti or Nicaragua in the 20's and 30's they might use them because they found them useful in the jungle and guerrilla warfare they encountered. Some units want to have a shotgun or two in urban enviroments. Remember the USMC were funded thru the Navy department and not the War department, and interservice rivalry being what it is, the Navy decides we don't want what the army has and a congress critter or two who has a piece of the armaments pie sees and oppurtunity. Look at how the Navy's torpedo factory in Newport RI was run before WWII.

That'd be quite reasonable. Of course they tended to use the Thompson in those sorts of situations.

Don't NECRO.

Some people scream when their is a previouse thread on a topic others about Necroing, so I wonder what sometone is suposed to do when they think they have a thought to add to a subject. Either way I dont see why some people get so tetchy about it.

It's apparently considered improper etiquette on the board, unless of course you give a decent reason/excuse. Also, it could be because spammers use that tactic as well.

As for the assault rifle, the Americans would have some tech advantage and prestige. Though given that Tommy guns and M1s were doing the job just fine, it would look like a R&D plaything at first.
