WI the United Nations, at the urging of either Ahmadinjad, or Hugo Chavez,
got involved in our elections? Their argument? That our elections are rigged and the UN decides to send observers to make sure they're honest. What would the reaction of the American people be?

Doesn't the US already have a number of electoral observors across the nation? If so, people get annoyed at what's already in place.

Neither of those guys would be listened too, and I don´t think anyone would take the risk of insulting USA by demanding this. Not that USA would invade any european country, or for that matter asian or african because of that, but it would hurt the relations.

Basically, it would need to be a really, really obvious plot. And this comes from someone who doesn´t trust Diebold machines;)

The United States already has electoral observers from the OECD, OSCE, EU, CoE, the UN and many other organisations.

Besides, no one would listen to Armoured Dinner Jacket or the fat Venezualan idiot.

Note: The list of organisations above probably contains some that have never monitored a US election, but I was making a point that US elections are monitored by outside observers more than anything else.

I prefer to call him Armed And Dangerous. :D

The US bars any UN observers from observing elections. This is ASB, to be honest.

Do not underestimate the amount of nonsense US authorities can do. I think it´s absolutely reasonable to assume some local authorities bars international observers from doing their job.

IIRC there have been incidents where UN observers were not given access to US prisons to check if the conditions inside were up to international standards. And let’s not forget the regular violations of the foreigner’s rights who are arrested in the USA, whose Embassies are not being informed, who get shitty defenders and the US Courts who don´t order a re-trial.

Just the OSCE. No observers from the UN monitor US elections that I'm aware of, though I don't see what the problem would be if they did.

Don't want to start any polemics please.
Maybe the "bizarre" 2000 votes in Florida could be a good POD to have OSCE observing US elections ?

That's OTL. OSCE observers were invited to monitor the 2004 elections, and though I haven't read anything about it, I suppose they'll be around for this year's election as well.

Of course, with all the shenanigans in Birmingham about a year or so ago, they may well have a point with the British elections....
