WI the UN resolution to intervene in the Korean conflict failed?

If the USSR vetoed Resolution 83 for the introduction of UN forces to stop the North Korean invasion, would the US act unilaterally?

Yeah, i think the US would go it alone if they have too. Some of their allies might use the lack of resolution as an excuse for not helping though. On the other hand some nations might send forces anyways just to get on the good side of the US.

The countries that provided large numbers of troops to the conflict would still do so. The countries that gave tiny numbers probably would not. Individually, these contributions were small, but added together it might hurt. The big change will probably be that the UN is seen as even more worthless than the LoN.

Not necessarily, the US already had troops in Korea that were attacked and already fighting, so pretty much everyone would be understanding of them fighting back against the North Koreans.

America possibly, the British and other allies is very unlikely without making the UN a joke right from the outset.

No, the US just laughs and submits the intervention resolution to the General Assembly which will easily pass it. The US faced exactly this same situation later on in the conflict when we were preparing to cross the 38th parallel and liberate North Korea. It was decided we needed UN authorization do this, and since the Soviets had ended their boycott of the Security Council by this point and would have obviously vetoed any resolution submitted to the UNSC, the US got the necessary authorization from the General Assembly instead of the Security Council.

The US intervened for its own strategic reasons that had little to do with the UN.

Using the UN was preferable because it helped with the propaganda and helped to sell the war to liberals who don't mind killing vast numbers of people if a piece of paper couched in legalisitc terms says so.

I interpreted it as him asking what would happen if it didn't get enough votes and failed to pass, not what would happen if it was passed and then was vetoed.

Uhm..... If a resolution was passed, the USSR can't go back and veto it. A passed resolution is a passed resolution, and the USSR would have to bring up another one to overrule the passed one.
