What if the people of Luzon were just like the people of Mindanao which were hostile to the Spanish and hostile to the missionaries, how would this effect the Spanish and its Empire.
Doubtfull. With the Dutch, British, Portuguese and possibly the French around, I am fairly certain the Philipines will fall in the sphere of influence of at least one of these countries.Philippines would remain independent until 19th Century when most likely, the British establish protectorates over the Philippines.

Wouldn't the Spanish be likely to just keep trying? It's not like Spanish America didn't have plenty of set-backs where they were driven out of a region, only to return later in force.
They still have bases in the region, and a better power-projection capability than e.g. the English at the time. But a Philippines under looser control (a few forts along the coast), and less Catholic, would be interesting in its own right
