Due to the Sino-Soviet split, there were much more border tensions on the 4.380 kilometre long border between the USSR and China. The Chinese claimed some territory as they deemed that treaties made between the Qing and Tsarist Russia were invalid, an interpretation which Moscow did not share.

There were several brief border skirmishes known as the Sino-Soviet border conflict, or war if you will although it doesn't deserve that name IMO, (more info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sino-Soviet_War ). These mostly took place in March 1969 and were inconclusive with both sides claiming victory.

Suppose worse comes to worse and the Soviet Union and China go to war. What will the results be, both in the short term and the long term? Will we see nuclear war and what effects will such a war have?
