WI The Romanovs were granted a new land to rule over

In 1613 Moscow was occupied by Poland and Russia was in ruins. In 1913, Imperial Russia was the greatest land empire in the world, a great cultural and ideological power and about to enter in full motion into the industrial age (and by all calculations without the First World War Russia would have become one of the top three industrial powers in the world by 1930)... I'd say the Romanovs weren't so shabby in leading a very difficult nation...

Parts of this development, especially in the latter years, were not due to Romanovs but rather because they (esp. Nicholas II) couldn't fuck it up enough to stop or retard the economic processes. Not for the lack of trying, though.

Have another Romanov territory in 5 easy steps:

  1. Let the Tsar sign a (crushing) peace treaty with Germany.
  2. But the revolution cannot be stopped by then anymore.
  3. Give the Tsar the opportunity to flee (most likely to France).
  4. Let the Bol'shevists continue the war.
  5. The Tsar is installed as a ruler in a territory conquered, but hard-to-reach from Soviet Russia.
If the Soviets roll over him, not much is lost ...

Son, that ain't a country; that's a back yard.
