I saw a program today about the Right Club in the 1930s http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Right_Club#The_Right_Club which were a group of Facists in the UK. They had a spy in the US Embassy that passed them copies of Churchill's messages to Rosevelt (sorry about my typos. Had these been passed to the Germans and then made public in the US, the USA (the US people as a whole did not want to get involved in WW2) might have cut off all aid to the UK in 1940. What if that had happened?

By mid 1940 Congress had twice rewritten the Nuetrality Acts, reducing their effects, then abrogated them entirely. From late 1939 The Allies were able to purchase about anything they could find for military use in the US. The French had ordered over 2000 aircraft by May 1940 and were negotiating twice that for 1941.

Nothing about that was secret from the US public. I wonder what was in those messages that would have inflamed the popular opnion?
