WI: The Red Sox and Yankees Switched Places?

What if the Yankees took on some of the Red Sox OTL features and problems, such as being the team to take almost a century to win another world series and having only a moderate number of world series wins, while the Red Sox took over the Yankee position of being the sort of "Evil Empire" of Baseball and winning the most world series of any of the teams, etc?

Red Sox fans would probably be even more insufferable than they are now.

It depends on how the POD is set up, as I doubt one single event could alter something on that big of a scale. Ruth's not leaving Boston, and becoming a right-fielder, would be a main part. If Jacob Ruppert dies early of a heart attack or stroke, brewing accident, it could knock the Yankees down by not having an early active owner with deep pockets, as could having a financially involved, caring owner on the behalf of the Sox, giving Boston the early financial advantage.

Sox

Here could have been the genesis for that:

Bill Carrigan, Boston's manager in 1915, only takes one year off to help his wife and their newborn baby. He comes back as manager the next year.

Carrigan was the manager that was able to keep Ruth under control. With his presence, the chances that Ruth end up staying probably would have increased.

I would agree that Keeping ruth is essential..

also keeping the core of those 1917-1918 teams would help as well the lost quite a few good players.. like Wally Schang, Everett Scott, Carl Mays, Waite Hoyt, Joe Bush and Sam Jones went from the Sox to the Yankees in the next one to three years, along with Ed Barrow, to yankees to become GENERAL MANAGER... the guy built the red sox empire.... and well after Harry Frazee Purchased the Sox in 16 it was all down hill cause he was way out on the plank trying to finance a ball club and his <ivy league better then thou accent> incredulous operas of the day </ivy league better then thou accent> .. so what does he do.. dismantles the team.. sells off the good players for scrap iron and basically the sox implode..

Get a real owner in 16 instead of Frazee and the Red Sox could stand a chance of continuing there impressive run.. It wasnt a case of the Cures of the Bambino .. but more of a Curse of Ownership ...

and btw all teams that either win win win win.. are hated.. and those that loose moan moan moan moan moan
