WI the Plaugue of Athens much more devistating

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plague_of_Athens

The Plague of Athens was an epidemic that effected Athens (and to a lesser extent, the rest of the eastern Mediterranean) during the second Peloponnesian war.

What would the effects be hadthis epidemic reached the levels of devestation of say the Plague of Justinian? It apparently caused some social breakdown in Athens itself. Could it lead to a collapse or transformation of the social and political structures of Greece and the wider ancient world? How far could it conceivably spread?

I would say it is dependent on what theory in regard to origin and what disease/virus/etc. you would agree upon.

From what I recall, researchers had made a connection between the plague of Justinian and the bubonic plague. However, little is known about the plague of Athens and all one can do is guess.

What would you say would match the plague of Athens in OTL?
