Amish Navaho? Mennonite O'odoham(sp)?

What if, either alongside/in place of/prior to the Mormons being shoved out west*, the Plain People go out there, spreading their ways to their new neighbors?

* = they'd been in the Americas since the 1600s at least, but didn't come close to evacuating Europe until the 1860s.

I'm not sure how you'd get this, Keenir. In general the Southwestern peoples have been fairly good at insulating themselves and keeping their traditional beliefs. Plus the message of the Amish/Mennonites seems to me to be too radicall to really atract that many converts. Aren't many groups against seeking converts?

Perhaps you might find some small groups scattered around the Southwest, but not whole tribes.

I don't see the native tribes picking up these ideas, they are quite culturally independent, especially the Navaho. Side note, a number number of SW tribes were actually forced to move into that region by the movement of plains indians, such as the Comanche, which originally lived in the upper midwest.

So, ... We have the Plain Indians vs the Plains Indians:)

Or....

Apache warriors wearing floppy black hats and using only black and white face paint.

The mind boggles
