WI the Pinto was built as originally planned?

That is an impressive bit of car crafting. The Z's engine bay was crowded with the straight six and the struts coming right up into the engine bay. I had a 240 (no smog equipment, at least after I got my paws on it :p) and it was pretty quick as was. With 327 it must have been a beast.

A friend of mine put a 396 in one.

Yep.

Almost as good as a 327 in a Vega. Buddy of mine had one of those, with a shortened 12 bolt rear axle. Scariest damned car I ever rode in. way the engine was built he had at least 350hp on tap with single piston front disc brakes and 9" drums in back (and of course no ASB, Air Bags, etc). He had Simpson racing harnesses in it, but if he had ever hit something it was vaya con dios.

Ford actually put a V8 into the Maverick. The also dropped a 170 ci V6 into the Pinto, but that was so choked by early smog equipment it only had 115hp.

My basic world view is if it can't get to 60mph in under seven seconds it should never be built.
Are you sure your not 40 and named Jeremy Clarkson

Pretty sure.

Don't think he ever owned a GSX Stage 1. I loved that car. Could spin the wheels by gearing down on the freeway and punching it.

Now THAT set-up must have been nose heavy as all hell.

Not as bad as this

check the Air intake on top of the carbs

My dad had a pinto I want to say 79 which he actually really liked till it burst into flames. making it safer might go a long way it helping ford since I get the impression it was a fairly good car otherwise.
