WI: The Ottoman Caliph is forced to convert to Christianity

As we all know, the forced end of the Ottoman Caliphate was a very controversial decision. Many muslims believed that they would have to convert, and it led to the khilafat movement in India. However, what would have happened if the fears were indeed true? What if Mehmed V was forced to convert by the Entete?

Moved to post-1900. It's a stretch, but the scenario doesn't require miraculous intervention, and thus doesn't belong in ASB.

Seems very implausible when they weren't crusaders. But if they would do that caliph would be removed from the office and if he is lucky he might survive alive. Apostasy in Islam is serious thing and anyone wouldn't follow Christian caliph, when it would be practically impossible. Like pope would be enforced convert to Islam. So about such guy wouldn't be any benefit.

Then the man , maybe even the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire might have converted to christiantity ...
but
NOT the caliph, what he, Mehmet V., would not be anymore.

The Chalifat-movement you mentioned might get even more followeres - with whatever "change" to history - but IMO you might also get a consinderable number of turks turning towards christianity also, as the - obviously - victorious faith.
What might get things ... even more ... complicated in little and near asia in TTLs future.

The effects could be drastic, after all, the clergy in Islam has a lot of power and there could be serious rebellions in Colonial India and middle east.

Given Mehmed's relevance to most Muslims by then it is just added to history's footnotes under 'dick move' other than that mostly meh. I am not convinced it even makes much difference to the Khalifat Movement in the end as it was largely the corruption of their own leadership that disenchanted the common Muslims in India (as was).
