WI: The Nintendo-Philips SNES-CD was released

For those who are living under a rock, the SNES-CD was originally going to be developed by Nintendo and Sony. However, Nintendo dropped Sony in order to work on the add-on with Philips instead, with Nintendo announcing their partnership with Philips at the Summer CES 1991, just one day after Sony announced their SNES/CD hybrid console, the PlayStation. Unfortunately, the Nintendo-Philips partnership resulted in not a CD-ROM add-on for the SNES, but the YTP-bait Mario and Zelda games for the Philips CD-i instead.

But what if Nintendo and Philips released the SNES-CD? Would it be a success or a failure? How would it affect Sony? How would it affect Sega? How would it change Nintendo? How would that affect the Philips CD-I? Would we still get Hotel Mario and the Zelda CD-i games?
