During the Ottoman invasion of Transylvania, Vlad Tapes went straight for the throat and tried to off Medmed the Conqueror personally with an attack on his camp. Although the assault was pretty successful, Vlad mistook some viziers tents to be the Sultans and attacked that way, allowing the Sultan to escape.
What if the attack went down the way it was supposed to, with Vlad killing Medmed? I know there's a lot of vlad-wanks out there, but I'm wondering what the most probable outcome of this POD would be.
I'm not the best with my Ottoman history, but it looks like in 1462 he had a really effective Grand Vizier who could've held things together. His son Bazeyid II would have been around 15, Sultan Cem is 3, and I can't find anything on Mustafa unfortunately.
Who ends up sitting on the Ottoman throne? And do they keep their European possessions?
How would the rest of Europe react? I know the Pope was trying to drum up support for a crusade, and Vlad winning would probably galvanize western rulers, if only for material gain. Would the people recently conquered by Medmed rise up?
How would this affect the Karamanids?
I'm curious to see where this goes!
