WI the Niel plan was putted in act?

Visiting in these days the Musee de l'Armee at Paris, i observed among the different objects and interactive parts the war movements during the franco-prussian war. I discovered there was a plan planned by the recently dead general Niel before regarding a preemptive French strike in Renania, but it was discharged in favor of a more attendist stance. Because of the overhelming numerical and strategical superiority of the German coalition, surely things will not ended differently from OTL, but what instead if the Niel plan was put in charge by the French? Maybe Sedan could be avoided at least?

Given how much faster the Prussians and their allies mobilized, any force committed to that attack (from Thionville toward Trier) would either have run into a brick wall or have found itself out on a limb as the main Prussian force interposed itself between them and their base, depending on the Prussian response. Either result would probably be worse than IOTL, with part of the French army savaged before the rest is even assembled.

The result would be an even quicker defeat than IOTL, with the possibility of Paris falling to the Prussians before the French can organize a proper defense. In the long run that would be a good thing; the horrors of the seige and Commune would be avoided and the peace imposed would be less harsh, with a much greater chance of reconciliation afterward.

French tactics favors defense as they knew they have the best rifle, the Chassepot and the earlier machines-guns, and the wars of 1859 in Italy, the ACW and the 1866 war proved that fire kills and attacking tactics should be reinvented...

French tactics were the good ones, they only lacked a good 75 gun, the German had really a superiori artillery, to really slaughter the Germans in the first round and then counter-attacked...
