WI: The NAB Television Code was never abolished

In the United States, The Television Code of the National Association of Broadcasters was a set of ethical standards for television during the Cold War era. It prohibited the use of profanity, negative portrayal of family life and religion, among other things. Under pressure from other TV stations, it was abolished in 1983. You may know about the "Seal of Good Practice" from television station sign-ons and sign-offs.

Say it was never abolished, what happens next? Would a lot of TV shows like the reality shows "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" and "Jersey Shore" not exist?

these days you can see a lot of stuff online, play video games, or other things. TV would have a hard time surviving in an era where multi media alternatives exist with no such limits.

FOX starts airing shows without it and explodes in popularity even sooner than it did IOTL, Married With Children and/or The Simpsons probably reach #1 in the ratings at some point.
